Hey all u people cracking on the people who dont know about this trick need to step back . People today assume that the world is all computer knowledgeable and its ridicoulous...Just because a player may not know a simple window command does mean that the thier team would lose to begin with...its simple yet unfair tactic being used by opponents to gain the upperhand and its sad...The people doing this dont have the SKILL required to win a fair fight...not the other way around...its a cheap exploit and i laugh at those that have to sink low enough to use this tactic just to get a victory. Which IMO makes you more of a noob then the player foolish enough to listen

I would agree with Sira...while any experienced PC user knows just what the hell ALT-F4 does, having to resort to that cheap a tactic speaks worlds for the low-lifes trying it.

Typical defensive posturing. When I run with my guild in 6v6 we know we're going to win anyway, so this is mostly just for kicks and to expedite the process. Don't like it? Well, there's not really anyone to stop me is there?

I'm aware of what Alt-F4 does, and am shocked when people actually d/c right after such announcements as well...
However, that a person 'deserves' what happens is rediculous, and people who say as much are being horrible. Especially those that call them 'dim-witted' or 'stupid'.
Hello! Rote memorization =/= intelligence. Do you honestly believe you're so much smarter than somebody because you know one little incidental factoid that they don't?
Some people use other functions to quit programs, and some other windows functions are disabled in guild wars. At least, Ctrl+Alt+Del does nothing for me from within guild wars, except when it's frozen on a loading screen and won't minimize after pushing Alt+Tab. So I have to Alt+Tab then Ctrl+Alt+Del when it gets stuck. People have Ctrl+Q, the X button in the upper right corner, and selecting exist from the menu, and they may never have been exposed to Alt+F4. I don't see how it makes them stupid.
It's not a concept that you require to get by, that you need to consider and understand the rationale behind like a theory or forumula, it's a bit of incendental common knowledge. I wouldn't call a person stupid because they couldn't name all of Santa's reindeer.

Yes, computer literacy is a lot more common now than it was years ago, but still, there're people who rarely interact with them, and faulting them for that and placing harsh labels on them is a bit much in my opinion, and you should indeed feel ashamed of being so indifferent to the ailments of others just because you don't suffer from it.

If you're computer ever overheated and caused permanent damage because of dust build-up, had severe performance degradation because of spyware/adware, got a virus, etc. etc. would you be laughing at yourself and calling yourself stupid because you were unaware of such common problems?
And how many people both know of Alt+F4, and still download things over MSN and what they get from emails despite the high risk of viral infection? And I mean silly things, like pictures and text files, and things with extensions they aren't even familiar with.

Sorry for the extemporaneous soap box speech, but honestly, I can't stand such apathy.

As for your oppinion people somehow deserve it. IMPO you should get off your high horse and stop being a selfrightous --- . Its poor sportsmanship wheather you feel they should Know something or not. But yeah all ya can really do is laugh after the fact, but to think people deserve it is kinda stupid again IMPO.
Thanks Sting for posting this. I was about to list the NUMEROUS programs that use ALT-something for in the program commands.

And thanks for backing me up. Because for sure lack of knowledge does not give right to abuse. grrr

Not. It was an intelligent and logical response to you, and since you had no rebuttal you had to make some comment to make yourself look good.

How arrogant! I believe you all are cowards because if you weren't you'd fight the entire group and win. Not pull a dirty trick so you have less people to fight.

Not yet, but I bet there will be. Hopefully it will be that the person who announces the "hey hit ALT-F4...blah blah blah" will have their game quit.

Erm anything ending in "Your not gonna stop me are you?" tends to sound more like posturing. Frankly one less player on what you assume to be an inferior team doesn't save you much time, feels more like you enjoy showing off your knowlage of a widely known fact too a few unknowing unfortunates just alittle too much.

Lets go ask a five year old what root 36 is tommorow eh?

I'm so glad you were here sitting with me yesterday while I played so you could speak from such a position of authority. NOT.

Did I say it was a BUG!!! No my complaint which you apparently DID NOT read was about the people who make that statement so that others quit their game inadvertantly.

Lol it's not nearly as bad as alt+6588 for some reason on some computers it quits GW. It just does a + sign for me .

Anyone falling for this needs to learn, don't play with random people.

I am ashamed to admit that, indeed, I do know all the Microsoft GUI standard keyboard commands. Of course, I'm older than dirt... so that has to be taken into consideration. (grin)

Admittedly, it is hard for the technical adepts in the world to remember they are still not a majority. But it is still true.

As to the OP, it's kind of like guys getting it caught in the zipper... I hear tell it rarely if ever happens twice.

But yes, I suspect there are some for whom this is considered high humor or 'competitive tactics'.

Sad.

Well stated Mercury, however it appears that these words fall on deaf ears. Thank you for your support in this. I'm sure this thread is going to get good.

You know your going to win anyway? yeah right i would think that if your a good team or guild, you would want a challenging fight. If you are that good of a guild you shouldnt have to expidite the process should you...while no i cant stop you, you alone just showed that your are in fact a skillless player and whats worse is that you are insulting your own guilds compitence level. A good guild or team coud handle the fight without resorting to low blow tactics

REALLY?! I think that is awesome! I only keep in memory a the ones that make life easier. Sometimes clicking is just easier, and I'm usually about speed. When I'm doing Twister on the keyboard forget it!! Hats off to you Virago. Really.

It's not that big a deal, really... especially when you have to know them all for work. Usability is kind of finicky like that.

Whats scarier? Some one doesn't know this or that someone listened to the OPPOSING TEAM and did this? Sorry, I have to laugh at this as annoying as it is, but if someone is going to listen to someone who is there to beat you, good lord you don't have a shot anyway. After the giggling I have to say I am bit speachless as the ignorance of people who do this. Lol, I wonder if they get caught on the 'pull my finger' gag on a regular basis.

Now don't take me wrong and I see how frustrating it is for you, but if you have a team member that is going to believe that one, you gotta team member who is going to attack the warriors first and get out of the range of his/hers healer. And if you have team members of this quality, no it won't be a challenging fight.

Ah, you are one of those players. Good to know. I bet in other PvP games you zerged the other team to death to "expedite the process." Probably corpse camped, too, because, hell, there was no one to "stop" you.

Too bad you don't publish your omgwtfpwned guildname. I'd like to go against you in the arena, allow you to shout your pissant dishonorable spam, plan to have someone from our group drop ahead of time, and kick your ass all the same. I mean, if you can dream, so can we.

*edit*
For the record to all these other chumps who seem to think computer knowledge and PVP skill are somehow linked, please take your heads outta yer arses. The two are mutually exclusive. I've had teammates who couldn't run a fax to save their lives, definitely wouldn't understand what "overclock" means much less how to overclock their vid card, do not understand the first thing regarding the mechanics of game design, but know to the T the effect of every single one of their skills and can combine them to a frightening degree. I like to believe these friends aren't gullible enough to fall for an opposing team's recommendation; but in my experience being innocent or naive is not generally considered flame-bait either.

There are all kinds of silliness out there. I remember when the big joke on new players in Everquest (1) was to challenge someone to a duel and then tell them to use /d to deline the duel or worse, to type /d to accept a donation the player was trying to give to them.

/d was the shortcut command to accept (/duel being the long version).

Then there was the Magician's 'Rod of Transvergence' -- which, when right clicked, took 450 HP and gave you 450 mana. Needless to say, most new players didn't have 450 HP.

And so it goes.
